UPDATE: Jim Moran’s office emails out the girlfriend’s explanation with her claiming that she broke her heel and “accidentally” ran into the trash can.
Did Moran’s staff think she tripped and fell down the stairs would be too obvious?
This is low, even for a slime ball in Congress. But most especially since it contradicts the eye witness account of a police sergeant, according to the Washington City Paper:
“the police report…describes both a Metropolitan Police Department sergeant and an Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration investigator seeing Moran slam his girlfriend’s head into a trash can cage outside the Getaway, a 14th Street NW bar.”
Democratic Congressman Jim Moran’s son, and former campaign manager, pled guilty today to beating up his girlfriend outside a bar in Washington, DC.
In response, the Congressman downplayed the violence, that an ambulance worker said appeared to have fractured the girlfriend’s skull, as “an embarrassing situation” his son and girlfriend want to put “behind them.”
Way to condemn violence against women, Congressman.
Reports the Washington City Paper:
Patrick Moran, the son of Democratic Virginia Rep. Jim Moran, is having a bad year. First, undercover video operative James O’Keefe caught him on tapehalf-heartedly discussing how to commit voter fraud…while acting as the field director for his dad’s campaign. Now Moran’s taken a more criminal turn, pleading guilty earlier today to allegedly beating up his girlfriend outside a Columbia Heights bar.
Moran and his girlfriend were fighting outside 14th St. bar The Getaway around 1:23 a.m. on Dec. 1, according to a police report, over Moran talking to another woman at the bar. Suddenly, Moran allegedly slammed his girlfriend’s head into the bar’s metal trash can cage.
After the attack, police described Moran’s girlfriend as “bleeding heavily from her nose and also observed that her nose and right eye were extremely swollen.” One of the ambulance technicians who transported her to Howard University Hospital told police that Moran appeared to have broken her nose and given her a skull fracture under her right eye.
This is unfortunately an all-too-common tale of a son of privilege getting off from a serious crime with little more than a slap on the wrist.
Probation for fracturing his girlfriend’s skull and breaking her nose on a metal garbage can? In what world is that an acceptable punishment?
Making matters worse, Congressman Moran tried to write the whole situation off as if it were a public urination arrest, not a serious crime of domestic violence.
Where are the liberal women’s groups outcries over this? Their silence is all too telling.
