With news of the conviction of an Occupy Fort Collins activist last week for arson, we thought it was a good time to highlight a recent declaration by former Vice President Al Gore regarding the need for Occupy activism.
During an interview with Vice Magazine, Al Gore declared that either an Occupy Awakening will occur, or all of civilization will lie in ruin. From Vice’s write up:
I asked him to describe the best and worst case scenarios for what civilization might look like 100 years from now. In one, Americans undertake an “Occupy democracy movement” to restore our political system, which Gore says has been “hacked” by money and special interests, and come together to fight climate change. In the other, the whole of human civilization lies in ruin.
Yes, Mr. Vice President, a protest movement defined by Occupiers defecating in public parks who required “rape-free zones” in numerous encampments, is exactly what society needs. Because the opposite would be civilization lying in ruin, or something.
Just look at the lovely leaders of the movement here in Colorado:
FORT COLLINS – Jurors convicted a former Occupy Fort Collins activist Friday on counts of arson, burglary and criminal mischief in connection with a fire that destroyed a four-story residential building in October 2011.
Benjamin David Gilmore, 31, faces a range of penalties from probation to 30 years in prison. He was acquitted of two more-serious charges of attempted murder, as well as additional counts of arson and criminal mischief…
Gilmore was an active member of the Occupy demonstration amid nationwide protests against social and economic inequality, and he spoke of the movement with media and before Fort Collins City Council before his arrest. The fire was a block from the protest site.
How exactly was the fine fighter of social inequality caught? His 99%er watch of course.
Evidence against Gilmore included his Rolex watch, which was found in two pieces among the debris near scaffolding inside the building: The bezel was on the second floor, where the fire started; the rest of the watch was on the ground floor.
Yes, Al Gore. Benjamin David Gilmore will be the savior of civilization.
