QUINNIPIAC POLL: Coloradans Loathe Obamacare, Obama and Udall Is Drowning

Coloradans overwhelmingly oppose Obamacare, think it will make their health care worse and have suddenly soured on President Obama, whom they re-elected by five points barely a year ago.

Results from the latest Quinnipiac poll – which released a second traunch of results this morning – contain multitudes of bad news for Democrats.

From the Quinnipiac release:

Colorado voters disapprove 59 – 36 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing, his worst approval rating in any state or national Quinnipiac University poll since he was elected. Even women disapprove by 52 – 41 percent, while men disapprove 66 – 31 percent. Disapproval is 98 – 2 percent among Republicans and 65 – 27 percent among independent voters, while Democrats approve 78 – 15 parent.

“President Barack Obama hits the rocks in the Rockies,” Malloy said. “Republicans are singing, ‘Rocky Mountain low, Obama’s in the snow.’”‘

What’s caused Obama’s historic slide of doom appears to be a very negative electorate when it comes to his signature legislative “accomplishment”:

Colorado voters oppose the Affordable Care Act 56 – 40 percent, with opposition at 96 – 3 percent among Republicans and 59 – 35 percent among independent voters. Democrats support the ACA 83 – 14 percent. The ACA will make the quality of healthcare they receive worse in the next year, 45 percent of voters say, while 18 percent say healthcare will get better and 34 percent expect no difference.

That big drop has worked its way down the ballot to tank U.S. Senator Mark Udall’s numbers as well. As Republican pollster Logan Dobson of the Terrance Group noted on Twitter, Udall’s “deserves re-election” figure has collapsed by 14 points since August:

While the Republican field against Udall is still trailing in head-to-head match ups, the silver lining is that State Senator Randy Baumgardner, whose candidacy is taken seriously by exactly one person in this state, only trails Udall by 5 points. If Yosemite Sam is nipping at Udall’s heels, the Boulder County Democrat has got to be having trouble sleeping at night.
