Last week, he was MSNBC‘s rising star, but, this week, Democratic state Sen. Jesse Ulibarri is in hot water.  A 9News investigative report shows that Ulibarri is one of many lobbyists who received fines for not filing or incorrectly filing monthly and yearly lobbyist reports with the Colorado Secretary of State.  The fines, sent to collections, for all the offenders total over $90,000.  Ulibarri’s share stands at $3,600 for work related to the ACLU of Colorado.

The worst offender was Ryan Clements, who used to be with R&R Partners; however, the segment acknowledges that he negotiated his fines down and paid the new amount.  Another person of interest on the list is Dave Williams, the former head of the Colorado Libertarian Party.  Williams, who owes over $8,600, also is running as the Libertarian candidate for Colorado Attorney General.  No word on whether Williams’ lack of filing is a one-man, anti-government protest. That’s a joke.

See the segment below.

An excerpt from the interview with Ulibarri:

I think I’ve made an honest mistake.  I made an agreement with my previous employer that they year-end report would be filed on my behalf because I left the organization.

Looks like the ACLU of Colorado failed to file. Ulibarri plans to appeal the amount.  But, the real issue here – Ulibarri makes laws, but he doesn’t think they apply to him?
