DegetteU.S. Rep. Diana DeGette today accused GOP congressmen of using tinfoil hats to send secret-coded messages to crazy people urging them to commit unspeakable acts of violence. Then she demanded that Congress dismantle a panel conducting an oversight investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practice of selling baby parts from abortions.

“Since July, the phrase ‘baby parts’ or similar phrases have been used by the eight (Republican) member of this committee — just those eight members — 33 times,” said Diana DeGette of Denver, one of the Democrats on the panel.

“And isn’t it interesting that this lone shooter used that same phrase,” DeGette said.

Democrats also demanded that the U.S. abandon the war on terror, because suicide bombers use the phrase “Allahu Akbar” before every attack, also at the behest of Republicans.

Okay, we made the last part up, but it makes about as much sense as what DeGette and other D.C. politicians are claiming – congressional oversight of the executive branch or government spending, essentially our entire system of checks and balances, should be disbanded because of one individual who is likely to be criminally insane.

A government panel examining how taxpayer dollars is spent is not responsible for the heinous crime committed last week, now matter how loudly some Democrats claim that it is.

Congressional oversight must not be held hostage to any criminal act, no matter how repulsive that act might be.

And to use this tragedy to secure funding for a controversial purpose is revolting.

On another related matter, we are pleased to report that aside from the members of ProgressNow Colorado and NARAL who held a press conference today in Denver to blame the GOP for the actions of a lunatic, about four people showed up.

Thank you, Colorado.
