Western slope voters can get a clear view of their choices to lead the 3rd Congressional District from this Club 20 debate held in Grand Junction over the weekend.

Here’s a hint at who won — Republican Jeff Hurd of Mesa County is the only candidate who felt strong enough about his performance to share the video of the debate on social media.

Aspenite Democrat Adam Frisch appeared angry at time while Hurd remained measured and forthright throughout the event.

“A reporter once said that I’m as exciting as a bread sandwich. That’s okay, rural Colorado doesn’t need excitement. It needs someone who will fight for it, not loud but smart. That’s me,” Hurd said.

Frisch came off as defensive, abrasive and petty, slinging mud while at the same time pretending he would represent all of rural western Colorado and not just his tony Aspen liberal buddies.

We didn’t buy it, and neither did the audience.

Frisch’s bizarre insistence that a Western Slope Republican would not protect their water rights at all costs came off as desperate and amateurish.

Hurd reminded the audience he has the endorsement of state Sen. Cleave Simpson, who serves as the general manager of the Rio Grande Water Conservation District, and state Rep. Marc Catlin, a water holder and defender from Montrose County.

We find it suspicious and not at all convincing Frisch would try to make a political stand on protecting water rights for the water users.

Democrats have fought for decades in California to take water away from farmers and water holders claiming fish need it more because climate change.

So when Frisch claims he would protect water on the Western Slope, we’re not at all assured that he would protect it for the human users as well.

And Frisch whining that Hurd is hiding from him because he declined to participate in the always left leaning League of Women Voters event?

Please. It’s the kind of showboating of which so many western Coloradans have grown weary.
