The rules have changed in the State Capitol. Big time.
The Denver Post chronicled the first manifestation of this seismic shift in power in a story this morning about a Republican plan to cut spending across the board as part of a preliminary budget setting process.
It wasn't but a few short months ago that it was the Democrats who won these votes on their party line strength. But all that has changed now.
Red-blooded conservatives were, no doubt, cheering at the news. They are hungry for leaders who will use their power to change the direction of government.
And Republicans in the House certainly appear poised to do their part.
the significance of this resolution. Can somebody explain it to me? In my experience resolutions are reserved for supporting causes that lack any control by state leaders other than giving their opionions about an issue. ACT stop TALKING!!
to cut the budget to more reasonable standards. You are correct that this resolution is meaningless unless they act, but this will at least set a higher standard for them to achieve. It’s a significant first step.
We could just insist they all make protest votes….
They haven’t even done anything yet!
Who am I kidding??? Nobody is going to give the repubs a chance!
The issue is that they won’t really get a chance to be fully effective because of the Senate and Hickenlooper.
