This morning, the Colorado House GOP elected two women to leadership as former Assistant Minority Leader Libby Szabo left the State House for a Jefferson County Commissioner seat. Rep. Polly Lawrence was elected Assistant Minority Leader to replace Szabo. Lawrence was formerly the House Minority Whip, which means her former role as lead vote counter may have helped her secure this new leadership spot. Replacing Lawrence as Minority Whip is Rep. Perry Buck.
In case you haven’t met either Lawrence or Buck, here’s a quick overview on the two.
Polly Lawrence
Lawrence is a small business owner, and is an officer and board member of Lawrence Construction. Hailing from Roxborough Park (that’s Douglas County for the geography-imparied), she has worked in the construction industry as a project manager and estimator. She has a large resume of community activities including serving on the legislative committees for the South Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Contractors Association.
She was a founding member of the Rocky Mountain Minority Contractors Association, a PTA President, a volunteer for Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America, a volunteer and counselor with Muscular Dystrophy, and a member of the Roxborough Women’s Network.
Lawrence is a graduate of Wheat Ridge High School and Colorado State University. She has two children with her husband Rick, to whom she’s been married for nearly 30 years.
Perry Buck
If Buck’s name sounds familiar, it should. Many know her as U.S. Rep. Ken Buck’s wife, but she’s a dynamo in her own right. Perry Buck is a third generation native of northern Colorado, and she still lives in northern Colorado (in Windsor) today. She has owned small businesses and lists as previous occupations event planner and insurance broker. She has been involved in her community, particularly in Republican causes.
She attended Pepperdine University.
The GOP is walking the walk by putting women in leadership. Congratulations to both Lawrence and Buck, but also kudos to House GOP – these are two great choices.
