Does he really talk to our kids with that mouth? Yes, he does.

Anderson didn’t bother educating the crowd on any facts surrounding a Kentucky grand jury’s indictment of one officer in the case of Breonna Taylor earlier in the day.

Contrary to what celebrities report, the tragedy unfolded after police knocked, announced themselves, and when no one opened the door police broke it down. Police were first shot at by Taylor’s boyfriend, then returned fire killing Taylor.

Read the rest of the actual details linked here from Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Police made other mistakes in the case, The officer who killed Taylor was fired and indicted on other crimes, the city paid out a $12 million settlement to the family. But we all know that’s not justice.

And yet riots and mobs are not justice for anyone who has died by the hand of a police officer.

To paraphrase Cameron, these protestors are not seeking justice, they seek retaliation.

Not only did Anderson condemn every police officer as corrupt, he ordered the media to ignore riots and report only on the message of Black Lives Matter.

But therein lies the problem. The message of BLM seems to now be riot, retaliate, it’s okay to commit crimes while signaling one’s virtue.

Denver School Board Member Tay Anderson schools our youth during protest.

The example Anderson has set as the at-large school board member for the city and county of  Denver has literally hit rock bottom.

For those wondering, it would take 52,000 signatures to launch a recall.

WAGONS WEST! BLM to Exit D.C. Beginning in 2019, Announcement Made in Grand Junction https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2018/04/11/wagons-west-blm-to-exit-d-c-beginning-in-2019-announcement-made-in-grand-junction/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2018/04/11/wagons-west-blm-to-exit-d-c-beginning-in-2019-announcement-made-in-grand-junction/#respond Wed, 11 Apr 2018 18:46:23 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=43697

Finally, a top Interior official has confirmed the BLM will move their headquarters out of Washington, D.C. to a soon-to-be-named western state starting next year.

And not just any official made the announcement, but the deputy secretary of Interior, David Bernhardt, who just happens to be a Western Slope native.

Bernhardt confirmed that money is being budgeted for the move in the next fiscal year.

From the Daily Sentinel:

Bernhardt spoke Friday by hookup from the White House to more than 30 western Colorado officials and others gathered for a Western-issues forum at Colorado Mesa University.

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton and U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, both Colorado Republicans who attended the forum, said they welcomed Bernhardt’s comments.

“Cory and I looked at each other,” Tipton said. “It was great to hear.”

Gardner and Tipton have been the movers and shakers guiding the move out of D.C., while simultaneously lobbing Congress for Colorado to be that western state.

We also suspect that the strongest ally the Western Slope has in the Trump administration to get the new BLM location, is Bernhardt himself.

WAGONS WEST! Government Jobs Managing Public Lands Headed Our Way https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2018/01/12/wagons-west-government-jobs-managing-public-lands-headed-our-way/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2018/01/12/wagons-west-government-jobs-managing-public-lands-headed-our-way/#respond Sat, 13 Jan 2018 00:35:57 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=42477

Guess who’s no longer thrilled with the idea?

It’s official.

The Interior Department has launched its largest reorganization in history to move bureaucrats out of the Beltway and into the heartland where their decisions will literally affect their next-door neighbors.

And Colorado is in the running to headquarter the Bureau of Land Management.

The movement to move it is being led by Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton and U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, so of course the liberal Washington Post reached out to Democratic U.S. Sen. Micheal Bennet for reaction.

It’s great, a spokesflak said, “but …”

Samantha Slater, a spokeswoman for Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., said in an email he is “supportive of moving more of the federal government out of Washington, particularly to the West.”

But she added that such a move would have to enhance BLM’s work, and noted, “We would expect Secretary Zinke to consult with our office, as well as communities across Colorado, prior to releasing any proposals.”

How in the world, we wonder while banging our head against the wall, can moving the BLM out West, especially to Colorado, not enhance BLM’s work and management of public lands?

It’s like saying you want to keep the babysitter, but you’re not sure if they should actually be in the house with the children, or in another state.

And does Bennet’s office actually think any Colorado community would object to landing hundreds of new high-paying office jobs?

When Tipton and Gardner initiated their campaign to move the western land managers West, Bennet claimed to be a staunch supporter.

“I’m all for it. I’m all for it, I think it would be great,” Bennet told Western Wire. “I think anything we can get out of Washington, D.C. and into Colorado, I’m for.”

But now they have to ask our permission, is what Bennet is saying.

We would really like to know why Bennet has changed his mind. Our guess is that it will align with opposition from environmental groups.

MIXED MESSAGE: Polis Says He Supports This, Turns Out He Doesn’t https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/12/11/mixed-message-polis-says-he-supports-this-turns-out-he-doesnt/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/12/11/mixed-message-polis-says-he-supports-this-turns-out-he-doesnt/#respond Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:13:15 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=42119

The BLM manages the wild horse program.

An interesting report from Western Wire lists who in the Colorado delegation is backing an effort to move the Bureau of Land Management headquarters from D.C. to a Western state, preferably Colorado.

Supporting U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton’s bill on the House side are Republicans Mike Coffman, Doug Lamborn and Ken Buck, and even Democrat Ed Perlmutter signed up as a cosponsor back in June when he was considering a run for governor.

U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, also running to become the Democrat’s gubernatorial choice,
told Western Wire he’s be happy to support it.

“I’m happy to join my fellow Colorado legislators on a bill to move the BLM out west, away from the politics of D.C.,” said Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.).  “I know the perfect home for the agency: Colorado.  We would welcome the BLM with open arms. With the agency closer to the vast public lands we all cherish and share, they would have better insight into what the lands mean to the western way of life. It makes perfect sense to have the agency nearby.”

The problem is, Polis has never actually signed on as a cosponsor since Tipton introduced the bill back in May.

The only members of the delegation who are not listed as cosponsors are Polis and Diana DeGette.

WIN FOR NATURAL GAS CONSUMERS: Trump Rolling Back Obama Overreach https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/10/06/win-for-natural-gas-consumers-trump-rolling-back-obama-overreach/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/10/06/win-for-natural-gas-consumers-trump-rolling-back-obama-overreach/#respond Fri, 06 Oct 2017 17:55:19 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=41367 The Trump administration has put the venting and flaring rule on hold until 2019 so it can review the over-reaching Obama-era regulation that was backed by environmentalist to cripple the energy industry.

Long story short, the folks who provide heat and fuel are elated, and so are consumers who won’t see price increases because of the costly rules.

On the other side of the issue, the collective “Chicken Littles” of Big Green are screaming that the planet will burst into flames, because climate change.

This is why the government is delaying and reviewing the rule:

“As we strengthen America’s energy independence, we intend to evaluate regulations to determine if they unnecessarily encumber energy production, constrain economic growth, or prevent job creation,” said acting BLM Director Michael D. Nedd.  “Our proposal would give the BLM sufficient time to review the 2016 final rule and consider revising or rescinding its requirements.”

The BLM never even had this kind of regulatory authority, which belongs to the states. Equally baffling, is that environmentalists complain the rule is needed to prevent natural gas waste. When companies insist they are not wasting their own products, enviros complain the industry is just being greedy.

What’s truly greedy, is inventing problems to unnecessarily worry and frighten the public, and then capitalize on the fear by raising donations to fix a problem that doesn’t exist just to collect a huge paycheck.

But we still find it amusing and refreshing that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke actually outed his own staff in a speech Monday when he revealed that a third of his 70,000 employees are intent upon sabotaging the president’s efforts to reform the agency.

That’s one of the reasons Zinke said he is looking to move several key agencies to western states like Colorado, to “push your generals where the fight is.”

By having those bureaucrats in the field, Zinke hopes to speed up the process that languishes for years to approve energy development and logging, the costs of which are always passed on to consumers.

He’s also taking aim at bureaucrats’ most favorite dysfunctional law they love to abuse, the Endangered Species Act.

Instead of using the law to save species from extinction and working to delist the critters, “there is no off-ramp” once the law kicks into gear, Zinke said.

God speed in reforming that mess, Zinke. That’s one law that stands as a monument to the action of greenies who are more interested in blocking development to harm people than actually saving a species.

FRONT RANGE VS. WESTERN SLOPE: Where Should BLM Relocate? https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/09/01/front-range-vs-western-slope-where-should-blm-relocate/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/09/01/front-range-vs-western-slope-where-should-blm-relocate/#respond Fri, 01 Sep 2017 22:06:16 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=41000 Now that Colorado has a real shot at becoming the new home to several federal Interior Department agencies, Western Slope leaders are stepping up their game to lobby for one in particular, the BLM, to settle on their side of the mountains.

Denver is being eyed as the home for the agencies that include the Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Reclamation.

But Grand Junction should be the new headquarters for the BLM, says the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado.

Gary Harman of the Daily Sentinel writes that the group voted Wednesday to encourage the counties and cities within its area to write Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and push for Mesa County.

It only makes sense because nearly half the county — more than 2 million acres — is managed by the federal agency, they argue.

We’re not ready to step into the middle of a potential Western Slope vs. Front Range war for the agencies. But it does make more sense to locate the agencies near the lands they manage, rather than an office building in downtown Denver.

LAND GRAB: The Feds Are Snatching Private Property in Surveys https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/04/14/land-grab-the-feds-are-snatching-private-property-in-surveys/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/04/14/land-grab-the-feds-are-snatching-private-property-in-surveys/#respond Fri, 14 Apr 2017 14:53:40 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=39001

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton is pursuing legislation to make sure property owners near public lands don’t wake up one day to discover the government now owns their land.

It’s every westerner’s nightmare, and apparently it’s happening enough to require legislation giving some protections to private property owners.

“We’ve heard from farmers, ranchers and others across the West who have faced fines and criminal charges, or have been forced to relinquish property they believed to be their own following BLM resurveys and reclassifications of federal land,” said Tipton.

Tipton’s bill requires the BLM to notify all adjacent property owners when these surveys arise at least 30 days before.

If it turns out the government says it made a mistake a century or so ago and that land actually belongs to them, there is a process to give the property owners some rights, such as first refusal to purchase the land, or to be reimbursed for all of the improvements they made to the property.

“Families who in some cases have lived and worked on the land for multiple generations shouldn’t be punished for surveying errors that were originally made by the federal government, and the REAL Protection Act is a common sense policy that protects these landowners,” Tipton said.

It is sad this legislation is even needed, including protections against charging private property owners with trespassing on land they thought was theirs.

We hope to see this bill pass quickly, and for the rest of the Colorado delegation to sign on as sponsors.

TRUMP’S WESTERN VICTORY: Obama Rollbacks are Sweet https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/03/29/trumps-western-victory-obama-rollbacks-are-sweet/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/03/29/trumps-western-victory-obama-rollbacks-are-sweet/#respond Wed, 29 Mar 2017 11:57:17 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=38694

President Trump revoked another Obama-era rule Monday that would have had devastating effects on the West — the BLM Planning 2.0 regulation.

The regs would have given the federal government back in Washington too much power over western land decisions, and kicked state and local interests to the sidelines.

The late-night rule passed just before Obama left the White House, and would have hurt grazing, and energy development and limited recreational opportunities on federal lands.

U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton and U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner opposed the regulations and voted to get rid of them, while U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet voted to preserve the rules, him being a big fan of Washington and all.

Numerous local officials on the Western Slope also supported overturning the regulations, the Daily Sentinel reported.

“The final BLM Planning 2.0 rule diminished the role that state and local governments, whose communities are most directly impacted, have historically played in the land management planning process. Important land management decisions should be made by the people who know the land best — not unelected Washington bureaucrats,” Tipton said.

This is an important victory for the West, one of several Trump has handed us since taking office and we thank him for it.

We may have a New Yorker in the White House, but he has done more in his first few months of office than Obama ever did in the last eight years to look after western interests.

MOVING THE BLM: That One Time We Said Yes To Government https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/03/24/moving-the-blm-that-one-time-we-said-yes-to-government/ https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/2017/03/24/moving-the-blm-that-one-time-we-said-yes-to-government/#respond Fri, 24 Mar 2017 12:54:16 +0000 https://coloradopeakpolitics.com/?p=38650

There’s just something about bureaucrats having to actually live in the same backyards they love to regulate that has a nice ring to it.

Not like the EPA office in Denver, where employees think it’s okay to poop in hallways because they’re obsessed with over-enforcement of the Clean Water Act or something.

We’re talking about moving the Bureau of Land Management, known as the BLM before BLM was cool, to Colorado. Also known as the great outdoors.
That’s the idea being pitched by U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner back in Washington — that an agency that regulates the West, should actually relocate to the West.

Washington of course will hate it, because Washington is all about keeping government in Washington where it’s harder for us average American folks to get access, especially for westerners.
Here’s Gardner’s brilliant idea, as told to The Daily Sentinel:

The thrust of Gardner’s pitch is that the more than 99 percent of the nearly 250 million acres of land the BLM manages is west of the Mississippi River.
“That is a heck of a long ways away from Washington, D.C., a heck of a long ways away from the policymakers who are impacting the lives of Westerners daily. And that’s why I think we should move the headquarters of BLM to the West, where BLM land isn’t a thousand miles away but it’s in the backyard.”

Mayor Hancock and Gov. Hickenlooper are already on board with the idea, presumably because they will want the agency moved to Denver. But Gardner is having none of that. It belongs on the Western Slope, in Grand Junction, he says.

And we absolutely agree. After all, Denver is the front yard.
