Initial reports indicated that Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump might attend the Colorado State Assembly on Saturday or, possibly, the Centennial Dinner on Friday. Trump will not attend either event, according to today’s media circus.
Some are blaming Trump’s alleged change of plans on the prediction that Cruz will sweep the Colorado delegates on Saturday, as he did last Saturday. Others say Showing Up for Racial Justice was planning a rally to counter Trump’s rally (see: Chicago). Either way, it looks like the Trump plane will not be landing here in Colorado.
In fairness to Trump, it looks like Kasich will not attend personally. Instead, he is sending a surrogate. We’ve heard Cruz will attend, but also heard he will send a surrogate.
Cruz’s surrogate is former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Kasich’s surrogate is John Sununu, former New Hampshire Governor and White House Chief of Staff under George H.W. Bush. Prominent supporters of Trump include Governor Chris Christie and neurosurgeon and former presidential candidate Ben Carson.
We’re going out on a limb here, but we think that Carson would be a better fit for this crowd than Christie. We’ve reached out to folks supportive of Trump and will update you if and when we hear any news about a possible surrogate or any back story.
