Gov. Polis delivered a disturbingly disingenuous State of the State address Thursday when it came to immigration including, some flat-out whoppers.
Like his opening line claiming that “In Colorado, we have zero tolerance for those who commit violent crimes whether they are American citizens or not.”
Clearly, he has some tolerance for even the vilest criminals, as Polis abolished the death penalty in 2020 and commuted the sentences of death row prisoners that included the likes of Nathan Dunlap, who went on a rampage at a Chuck E. Cheese killing four people in 1993.
Polis also commuted the sentences for Aurora witness killers Robert Ray and Sir Mario Owens, whose victims included Democrat state Sen. Rhonda Fields’ son, Javad Marshall-Fields. We bet she didn’t consider that zero tolerance.
Then Polis claimed, “we welcome more federal help to detain and deport dangerous criminals.”
And yet HB 1100 that Polis signed into law in 2023 restricts police here from detaining immigrants on behalf of federal immigration officials.
Polis didn’t explain how Colorado can “welcome” any help that he has outlawed.
He concluded:
“But, Colorado will not support efforts to deport American citizens, target those on pending legal status, or break up families, creating orphans of American children whose parents are alive and who came to this country to build a better life for their families.”
We’ll let John Fabbricatore, former field office director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tackle this one:
ICE does not deport US citizens. What kind of outrageous gaslighting is this?
Also, those with pending legal status or granted status convicted of certain felonies or crimes involving moral turpitude are deportable under federal law. Who are you to say they are not? You put US… https://t.co/Wmw53lMVEr— John Fabbricatore (@JohnE_Fabb) January 10, 2025
The very definition of an orphan is a child whose parents are dead, so it’s not possible to “create orphans of American children whose parents are alive” unless you’re already into the recently legalized mushrooms and hallucinating.
Polis clearly has not changed his stance on welcoming illegal immigrants to the sanctuary state and is only pretending to turn a hard line on just some criminals because he’s term limited and wants to run for president in 2028.
But Colorado can’t even get tough on the criminals already here who are U.S. citizens.
We don’t for a minute believe Polis is now suddenly willing to go all Dark Knight on the criminals who were Biden’s border busters headed for sanctuary states like Colorado.
We give Polis an F for failing to be frank and honest on the state of Colorado when it comes to illegal immigration.
