The U.S. Senate passed the Laken Riley Act just hours after President Trump was sworn into office on a bipartisan vote of 64-35.
Not feeling bipartisan and still clueless about the reasons their party got spanked in the elections were Colorado’s Democrat Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet, who voted against the measure.
Both were for the bill before they were against it, voting to advance the measure to debate, but then voting against the final version because the Senate apparently wasn’t interested in Bennet’s amendments to basically undo what the bill intended.
Go figure.

Trump and Republicans continued to pummel Democratic candidates over the huge influx of migrants during former President Biden’s four years in office, which totaled roughly 10 million people.
“Donald Trump turned our party into a punching bag when it came to immigration and the border and there was no need for that to happen,” Bennet said.
Bennet obviously remains blind to the blaring fact that Americans voted for Trump instead of Kamala in large part because of the mass migration of 10 million people under the Biden administration.
Bennet said he also opposed the measure because he thinks the decision to jail migrants over nonviolent crimes should be left up to prosecutors and judges and not result in possible deportation.
In other words, that status quo that resulted in the death of the Atlanta nursing student for whom this bill is named. And, the status quo that allowed Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo to walk after his arrest on charges related to forgery, counterfeiting, and larceny in Colorado, only to be arrested months later for raping a 14-year-old Aurora girl.
