Denver Mayor Johnston has grudgingly admitted he has little choice but to testify before Congress about the city’s sanctuary city policies that protect those here illegally from federal immigration.
For those who missed Johnston’s admission, it was buried at the very end of this 9News story by Kyle Clark:
P.S. Democrats don’t consider drug dealers to be “violent criminals,” even though they’re selling tens of thousands of lethal Fentanyl pills.
The House Oversight and Accountability Committee notified Johnston on Monday his presence was required at a Feb. 11 hearing in Washington, D.C.
From the very last two sentences in the story:
Johnston said his team is having a conversation with House Republicans about the “terms of the conversation,” acknowledging that he will have to testify one way or another.
“That’s certainly within their power,” Johnston said. “I’m not afraid of having a direct conversation about what they’re doing.”
That’s cute.
Congress didn’t request Johnston’s presence so that he could grill the committee “about what they are doing,” but for Johnston to testify before them about what he is doing in Denver.
As even Clark admits, if Johnston declined to testify he could be compelled to do so via subpoena.
The bullcrap Johnston pulls with the local media to insist he’s working with federal immigration while at the same time refusing to support deportations and fear monger about school and church raids?
Those tactics won’t work on Congress.
