How scared is the Left of Bob Beauprez’s gubernatorial campaign? Enough to release a video of Beauprez in 2010 stating a simple fact that 47% of all Americans pay no federal income tax. After seeing how well it worked for Obama against Romney in 2012, they must believe this is a “game-changer.” Has no one told them it is 2014?
The same day the Colorado Left ran out what they were sure was an ace in the hole (guess that 44%-44% dead-even gubernatorial poll really scared them) a Quinnipiac poll released showed 45% of Americans thought we’d be doing better under a Romney Presidency (compared to only 37% who think we’d be worse). Among independents, a full 47% are having buyer’s remorse, a +14 advantage (47%-33%).
Are Colorado Democrats really sure they want to run a Hickenlooper reelection campaign on 2012 Obama themes when clearly a large majority of voters are having buyer’s remorse about Obama?
Also absent from Beauprez’s comments as compared to Romney’s infamous ones, is any hint of victim blaming. As The Denver Post reports:
“I see something that frankly doesn’t surprise me, having been on Ways and Means Committee: 47 percent of all Americans pay no federal income tax,” Beauprez said in the video. “I’m guessing that most of you in this room are not in that 47 percent — God bless you — but what that tells me is that we’ve got almost half the population perfectly happy that somebody else is paying the bill, and most of that half is you all.”
Not anywhere to be found in Beauprez’s video is the more inflammatory rhetoric of Romney’s “47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what…” or “…[47%] who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it…”
Beauprez doesn’t view any of 47% as victims, but rather people who enjoy paying no taxes. Who wouldn’t be happy paying no taxes? Hell, Democratic poster boy Warren Buffett builds windmills just so he can avoid paying more taxes. It’s downright American to hate paying taxes.
Yet, the Left army took to twitter last night, trumpeting this as the second coming of the Romney gaffe. Too bad for them the video is absent of condescension, absent of malice, absent of disgust for the 47%. In fact, in the video, Beauprez sounds like a thoughtful man who is surveying the stagnating economy under Obama, and wants to fix it. He sounds like a man who rejects the class-warfare rhetoric of Democrats because he knows the economy is not a finite pie that Democrats just want to divide up. Instead, for Beauprez the economy is a pie that can grow larger so everyone can have their own slice. There’s a reason we’re not trading rocks for sticks anymore. When economies grow, everyone prospers.
The transfer of wealth perpetuated by our tax system is f-ing scary and trending towards a less competitive economy. Democrats try to make facts sound like insults when the reality is that this should be talked about and debated. Republicans want more people to prosper, thus increasing the tax base. How is this bad?
Watch the video for yourself PeakNation™. We here at the Peak know we would certainly want a man for governor from this video rather than other certain videos that have been floating around Colorado politics recently.
Mittens lost, you morons.
