Vice President Joe Biden once called paying taxes a “patriotic act.” If that’s the case, the folks in Boulder are seriously lacking in patriotism, as if we needed to tell you that, PeakNation™. According to the Longmont Times-Call, lines of Boulderites waiting to prepay their property taxes were out the door before the end of the year. Why? Because starting on January 1, 2018, the new federal tax reform law set a $10,000 cap on combined state and local tax-payment deductions that taxpayers can apply to federal taxable income when they itemize their taxes.

With the average cost of a single family home in the City of Boulder valued at over one million dollars, it’s no wonder folks are lining up to try to take advantage of the more favorable (at least in this respect) tax law. But, there’s just one problem. These are liberals. They’re supposed to view paying taxes as a patriotic act.

Where are all the patriots in Boulder County? Could it be that liberals simply want everyone else to pay more in taxes? That couldn’t be right, could it? Liberals just want to tax everyone else?

According to the Boulder County Treasurer, property owners prepaid more than $32 million on property taxes projected to be owed in 2018 by the end of 2017.  To put this in context, in 2016, 565 property accounts, totaling $9.63 million, prepaid taxes for 2017. The end of year 2017 figure is over a 300% increase from 2016.

We have to ask – where are the tax-loving liberals here?
