U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman
This weekend, Democrats were all abuzz about the possibility of a legitimate challenger from the right for Republican Congressman Mike Coffman in the era of Trump. Coffman has been consistently re-elected to one of the most – if not the most – competitive district in the country, Colorado’s Sixth Congressional District. He’s never faced a serious primary until now, if you believed Democrats last week.
Spoiler alert, Coffman breezed through the CD6 assembly with 74% of the vote, despite Democrats’ dire predictions wishful thinking that perhaps he would face a tough primary. While his Republican challenger, Roger Edwards, didn’t get the required 30% to make the ballot, we wish him the best.
That said, there is a political party that has a nasty primary in the Sixth Congressional District – the Democratic Party. While Coffman is moving on to the general, Democrats Levi Tillemann (Dick) and establishment elite pick Jason Crow are still duking it out over who will have the privilege of running headfirst into the Coffman electoral buzzsaw.
Democrats tried to make a mountain out of a molehill of the nonexistent GOP primary, but they must know that their eventual candidate likely will be too battered and bruised to make a significant run at Coffman in the general. Right?
