The state legislature has set its sights set on the lowest form of pseudo government that most assuredly is in charge of Dante’s 8th Circle of Hell — the homeowner’s association or HOA.
Tragically, nearly 60% of all Coloradans willingly live under the malevolent rule of the HOA, which explains how they’ve so easily transitioned to authoritarian rule under complete Democrat dominance of state government.
Those same HOAs are the leading culprit in gobbling up Colorado’s most precious resource — water. If we were to guess, HOAs are probably a leading cause of climate change and completely to blame for the coming extinction of mankind that progressives insist will happen any day now.
But we digress.
Senate Bill 178 — a bipartisan measure — would force HOAs to accept alternative landscaping that requires less water to maintain.
Every HOA in the state would have to pre-approve three alternative landscaping designs that save water, and no longer could HOAs ban vegetable gardens or fake turf grass.
To no one’s surprise, HOA management companies are opposed to the legislation they complain would unfairly burden HOA boards.
Coming in from right field with the commonsense explanation is Republican co-sponsor Sen. Perry Will of New Castle, who says the new rules do not cost the HOAs money for letting homeowners choose to save water and reduce their monthly water bill.
“I think we can all agree that saving water is a good thing,” Will said. “We have to face hard choices when it comes to saving water. When a suburban homeowner wants to voluntarily replace their lawn with low-water plants, that is not a hard choice. This is a low-hanging fruit. Governments and HOAs should at the very least get out of the way and let them proceed.”
The bill passed committee and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
