A poll for a Democrat challenger in Colorado’s ruby red 4th Congressional district claims lefty Ike McCorkle could win the seat long held by the Republican Party and beat Lauren Boebert.

Who the Hell is McCorkle, district voters might ask?

He’s the Democrat who lost to Ken Buck in 2020 with less than 37% to Buck’s 60%.

McCorkle lost again by roughly the same percentages in 2022, having collected about 130,000 votes.

Now comes this new magical poll conducted by McCorkle’s campaign that claims McCorkle could pull in another 4% this time and beat Boebert with 41%.

The poll claims Boebert only carries 27% in a head-to-head matchup against McCorkle in the November general election — the rest were undecided.

And yet the same poll shows Donald Trump leading Joe Biden in this dyed-in-the-wool Republican district by 10 points.

So what gives?

Good question, the poll isn’t public, but some of the results were shared with Colorado Politics that reports:

The pollster said the survey’s sample included 45% unaffiliated voters, 36% Republicans and 19% Democrats.

Further:

Asked to describe their ideology, 41% of the poll’s respondents said they were conservative, 38% called themselves moderates, and 22% said they were liberal.

Was this a push poll that rattled off a list of nasty statements about Boebert then asked whether the respondent would still support her? Probably.

And what about all the other Republicans running for that seat in the June GOP primary?

We are hard pressed to believe that McCorkle would go to all the trouble and expense of commissioning a poll without also asking respondents how he would fare against each of the Republican candidates.

Could a McCorkle win in a solid Republican district against Jerry Sonnenberg? Or Mike Lynch? Or Richard Holtorf? Or Deborah Flora? Or Peter Yu?

The pollsters didn’t release that information, because a Democrat can’t win this district.
