Democrat leaders cut off funds from state Sen. Sonya Jaquez Lewis to hire any more employees because they keep getting reports their fellow Democrat mistreats her legislative staffers.
Most recently, an aide was relegated to do yard work, and also bartend at a private party at the lawmaker’s home, paid for with campaign funds.
The Longmont senator also pimped out the staffer to do campaign work and knock on doors for another politician running for Adams County commissioner.
The Colorado Sun has the story that rivals a reality show on Bravo! and reports the commissioner candidate was running against Julie Duran Mullica, who is married to Democrat Sen. Kyle Mullica — one of Lewis’ “intraparty legislative rivals.”
From The Sun:
Jaquez Lewis said the work “benefited me by allowing me to interface with donors and further my political support.”
With that sort of reasoning, staffers will be cleaning her toilets if Democrat leaders don’t put a stop to this type of behavior.
Lewis can still hire legislative aides, but she will have to pay them with campaign funds.
Meanwhile, the Longmont Green Party is demanding Lewis’s resignation.
“Democrats can’t claim to represent Colorado workers while using public dollars to mistreat them,” Green Party Longmont Chair Patrick Dillon said on X.
Indeed, they cannot.
