After the guilty pleas entered in the Quality Paving corruption scandal, yet another Democrat corruption scandal is coming out in Adams County. Is there any Democrat in ADCO not corrupt?
Let’s see – we have Commissioner Alice Nichols selling county contracts for campaign contributions, Coroner James Hibbard sexually harassing subordinates, County Treasurer Diane Christner using government resources to print campaign materials, and Adams County Democratic Party Treasurer Elmer Hicks embezzling party funds.
And now we have the County Assessor, Gil Reyes, cutting property taxes for his campaign contributors. Thanks to Reyes’ actions his largest campaign contributor saved over $800,000 in taxes last year. Is it us or are Democrat assessors having trouble following the law lately?
But change is coming to Adams County in the form of newly-elected Commissioner, Erik Hansen. Hansen, formerly Mayor of Thornton, is shaking things up in Adams County requesting an independent audit of county tax assessments. The days of complete Democrat control and corruption in Adams County are over. But we suspect as Hansen continues his reform agenda more skeletons will emerge from the Democrat’s closet.
Leave it to you guys to make this into a partisan issue. His party affiliation doesn’t matter. There are plenty of Republicans who are equally corrupt.
@purple: I challenge you to show me a county where virtually every elected Republican has been under investigation for illegal acts in the span of about a year.
You’re missing the point. Politicians are politicians: they tend to run on the corrupt, self-serving side of morality. Their party affiliation is not the important part. I will agree that Adams County appears to have an especially corrupt group, but that isn’t because they’re Democrats.
Sure, I think you can make the argument that politicians like those in Congress tend to run on the self-serving side of morality, but not county positions. Coroners, Assessors, and other such county-level positions don’t generally attract the corrupt types, because they’re not high profile with huge budgets. But somehow the Democrat party in Adams has found a way to nominate bottom feeders to most of these positions.
Where do you think these Congressmen started out? Most of them start out in local and state government and worked their way up. It’s easy to pick up habits like these.
Is anyone really surprised? Must be something in the water in Adams County.
Somebody better put a bodyguard on Commissioner Hansen. With all these criminals running around I’d be afraid to walk down a dark alley. Wish there were more good people like him.
