We’re not surprised that U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner’s name would be on the lips of political talking heads who are now pondering the choice Donald Trump will make for his running mate.
It’s a low rumble right now, with two recent mentions in the past few days, but we expect enthusiasm for a Trump-Gardner match to grow because we think Cory would make a great president or vice president.
Gardner is often mentioned as one of the most promising up and comers in Republican politics. His national and international credentials are without question, he’s a proven statesman, and he’s one of us.
Pollster Ron Faucheux says Trump’s choice of a running mate will be a strong indicator of how he intends to govern.
A younger prospect is Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner, 41, a solid politician and “idea man” with a focus on economic and energy issues.
Breitbart says picking a running mate is the most important decision Trump will make before the general election, and cites Gardner as a “competent and qualified” choice.
We’re a little possessive, though, and would just as soon keep Gardner here in Colorado representing our interests.
That being said, Hillary is still welcome to take U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet as her wingman. He wouldn’t be missed.
That would be awesome.
Of course, Cory would have to resign his Senate seat and go all in.
