The Vail Daily wins the “Compare ‘em to Hitler!” award for printing an opinion article by an environmentalist contortionist who manages to link Nazism to Republicans and restrictive land use bills.
David Lien who works with one of those environmental groups disguised as hunting enthusiasts claims President Trump is at war with them.
Lien also claims it’s U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner’s fault that Democrat U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet doesn’t know how to pass legislation and failed for a decade to pass bills banning oil and gas development or locking up even more public lands from public use.
More than 3.5 million acres of land in Colorado are already designated wilderness area, but Bennet want’s his name on yet another wilderness bill.
But it’s Trump and Gardner’s fault Bennet sucks as a lawmaker, so environmentalists vow to defeat them using the same strategies as the Allies against Nazi Germany, or something.
During World War II, the U.S. and Britain won the Battle of the Atlantic by, in part, following the wise counsel of Winston Churchill: “Boys, when you’re going through hell, keep going.” For anyone with any interest in public lands and clean water, we’ve been going through hell for approaching four years now, but we will not remain indifferent. We will keep going, as Americans always have when faced with perils threatening our nation’s democratic institutions and way of life. We will prevail, just as we did against tyranny during World War II.
There are more comparisons to WWII just as idiotic as this, but it’s not worth repeating.
Anyone who thinks passing a wilderness bill is anything like fighting WWII and the Nazis who perpetrated the Holocaust needs a serious reality check.
Shame on the Vail Daily for printing it.
