By allowing a fair process for congressional redistricting after the recent Census count, Democrats complain they’ve allowed themselves to be screwed.
Colorado was one of several states including California that opted for an independent commission rather than a Democrat-controlled state legislature to draw the new map.
The result, Colorado’s new 8th Congressional District has an equal chance of going red in next year’s election.
And equal looks to equal doom for Democrats across the board next year.
Dave Wasserman, an editor with the Cook Report that analyzes politics and elections, actually suggests Democrats should have seized more seats by gerrymandering.
By not cheating, he says Democrats have already cost themselves control of the House.
By our estimate, neutral/commission maps in the blue states of CA, CO, NJ, VA and WA (93 seats total) will end up costing Dems 10-15 House seats they could have seized by gerrymandering, making Republicans even stronger favorites for House control. https://t.co/B6pIvVChXf

A California blogger complains that Democrats slit their own throats by not cheating.
On the bright side, liberals can all feel good about themselves for being so dedicated to fair voting. On the down side, we’re probably going to lose the next election because of this. Hooray for us.
Colorado political columnist Michael Littwin also chimed in with an entirely unearned pat on his back for Democrats here.
And yet, a dozen different Democrat groups actually tried to redraw the district in their favor by challenging the commission’s final product in the Colorado Supreme Court.
They didn’t do the “right thing” at all. Colorado Democrats tried, and failed, to cheat.
