A new poll that shows border control and tougher stances on illegal immigration are key concerns for Latinos is bad news for U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo, Colorado’s freshman Democrat lawmaker.

Axios reports the numbers supporting tight border security is the likely explanation for Donald Trump’s growing popularity with Hispanic voters.

A whooping 64% of Latinos support giving the president authority to shut down U.S. borders when too many foreigners are trying to enter illegally.

The poll also recorded a significant spike in Latinos who support building a fence along the southern border — 42% now support the security, as opposed to 30% in 2021.

The Axios-Ipsos Latino Poll is a nationally conducted survey done in partnership with Noticias Telemundo.

Even as the Axios article used inflamed rhetoric to suggest reelecting Trump would incite violence over lax immigration issues, it reported that 38% of those surveyed agreed with his pledge to send packing those who enter the U.S. illegally.

“Yadira Caraveo is on the wrong side of the issue of immigration, crime, and inflation. Her extreme track record is coming back to bite her as voters look to Republicans to help clean up Caraveo and the Democrats’ messes,” said Delanie Bomar, spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
