Top level staffers keep quitting their lucrative jobs working for Democrat U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo at such rates that her office now ranks as having one of the highest turnovers on Capitol Hill.
In just 20 months on the job, she’s on her third communications director and her press secretary quit this year.
At least two directors in the district have moved on, and the person now serving as her second chief of staff declined to give an explanation as to why.
How embarrassing for the maiden term of Colorado’s new 8th congressional district that represents most of Adams County, a large portion of Weld, and part of Larimer County.
Caraveo declined to respond to the rankings first reported by the Colorado Sun, and who can blame her?
Her high turnover of top staffers is like the proverbial canary in a coal mine that signals when everyone’s about to die. Only in this case, it’s not a literal death so much as an impending political demise.
The rankings are based on LegiStorm, which looks at the turnover numbers of highly paid staffers then assigns a score.
Out of 437 members of Congress, Caraveo came in at 31st place for top turnover this year. Her numbers last year weren’t much better when she came in 54th place.
From The Sun:
The relatively high rate of turnover, paired with the reluctance of former staff members to publicly talk about their experience under Caraveo, raises questions about her management of her staff. The top staffers who have departed were responsible for running Caraveo’s office, directing media strategy, handling constituent relations, and matching her work in Washington with the district’s needs.
Some Democrats are aghast the Sun would run this story while voters are casting ballots, especially since she is tied in the polls with Republican challenger Gabe Evans.
But it’s their freaking job to inform voters how members of Congress run their office and when symptom appear indicating she is a toxic boss.
