Colorado Springs’ new Republican congressman provided a snapshot of what the state can expect when Donald Trump is sworn into office Monday.

In an interview with Colorado Politics, U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank said he expects the deportation of criminals who are in this country illegally to be front and center.

Crank also expects Trump’s renewed direction on energy will have a positive impact in Colorado with timely permitting for oil and gas drilling.

But the big plate item for Colorado’s delegation on both sides of the political aisle is to make sure Colorado Springs remains the permanent headquarters for U.S. Space Command.

Crank said Republicans and Democrats are preparing to make their case to Trump, primarily that the costs for moving it now would be in the billions.

And that’s money Trump will need to extend his tax cuts, bump up defense spending, and reduce the deficit, Crank said.

Trump decided the base should be in the red state of Alabama before he left office, but Biden overturned that decision in 2023 in favor of the blue state of Colorado.

Some say Trump just did it because he was pissed at Colorado. Just as President Biden overturned it because he was pissed at Trump.

And, Biden has such fond memories of Colorado Springs

Besides, if Trump really wants to tweak the Democrats and get a standing ovation from the Republican delegation, he should just sign an executive order banning the import of Canadian wolves to the Western Slope.
