Denver Mayor Johnston has been called before Congress to explain why he and his sanctuary city refuse to fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
Specifically, he is to appear before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Feb. 11.
Chairman James Comer indicated in his letter obtained by the Denver Gazette they were interested in exploring this:
“Denver is a sanctuary jurisdiction under Colorado law, and Mayor Mike Johnston confirmed that he was prepared to go to jail to protect illegal aliens from federal immigration authorities.”
Words matter, Mr. Mayor. Good luck trying to walk that one back. Again.
The oversight hearing would also like Johnston to provide city documents and information related to Denver’s sanctuary policies and practices.
They should ask him why his sanctuary city welcomes illegal migrants, then spends taxpayer dollars to drop them off in other unsuspecting Colorado cities that do not support these so-called sanctuary laws.
Denver has been targeted by congressional oversight as one of four major cities refusing to comply with federal law, that also includes New York City, Chicago, and Boston.
Reached for comment, Johnston whined:
“The most helpful thing Congressional Republicans could do right now is fix our broken immigration system,” Johnston said in a statement to The Denver Gazette. “While they work on that, we will focus on running the cities that manage the consequences of their failure to act.”
Johnston and Democrats still don’t get it.
Republicans are fixing the broken immigration system by closing the loopholes that allow illegal immigration to continue to flourish in some parts of the U.S.
They are removing the criminals who threaten the safety of our citizens, they are closing the borders and ordering enforcement, while allowing a legal and orderly process into our country.
Our infrastructure simply cannot handle the free flow of two to three million immigrants a year, as Biden’s border busters have proven.
We hope the committee asks Johnston and the other mayors why they continue to promote and reward criminal activity along our borders and hold them responsible.
It looks like Johnston is already learning a valuable lesson; elections matter.
Also, karma’s a bitch.
