Gov. Polis’s head must be heavy under the weight of his crown as he contemplates whether to sign a bill denying Coloradan’s their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms, or be a Constitution loving Democrat as they all claim these days.

Misleading headlines suggest the bill merely requires gun owners take a class before buying a gun, and yet the legislation on Polis’s desk grants government authority over who can buy commonly used guns for self protection.

It reeks of the same law that effectively outlawed gun ownership in Washington, D.C. for decades earning it the nickname of crime capitol of the world.

Democrats want to establish a gun registry that is unworkable for law-abiding gun stores and citizens to navigate, while criminals won’t even bother with so-called legal gun ownership.

Colorado’s new GOP congressional representatives have weighed in with a strong argument urging Polis to veto the measure.

Led by U.S. Rep. Jeff Crank of Colorado Springs, the letter is also signed by Gabe Evans of Greeley, Jeff Hurd of Grand Junction, and Lauren Boebert who replaced Ken Buck.

“Colorado has a proud history of safeguarding its citizens’ constitutional right to bear arms. Yet, for the past decade, the Colorado State Legislature has relentlessly pursued ever-increasing restrictions on responsible gun owners. If you fail to take a firm stance against these radical attempts to undermine our rights, you will only serve to empower criminals at the expense of law-abiding citizens,” the letter said.

“The bill would impose a deceptive “permit-to-purchase” system riddled with bureaucratic hurdles and impedes our constituents’ ability to freely exercise their right to self-defense. SB25-003 bans the purchase of semi-automatic firearms unless individuals take mandatory training. However, in order to “enroll” in the mandatory training, Coloradans must first obtain a training “eligibility card” from the county sheriff’s office which, under the bill, a sheriff has the discretion to deny if they have a “reasonable belief’ the individual is a “danger to themself or others.” Not only does this new scheme come with additional fees and time commitments that no criminal will ever participate in, but it also gives any sheriff hostile to the individual-or semi-automatic firearms in general-carte blanche authority to block the enrollment. Moreover, any Coloradan that manages to comply with all the hurdles will have their personal information stored in a de facto gun owner registry maintained by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.”

We expect Polis will sign the measure because being anti-second amendment is the only leftist “anti-crime” accomplishment he can stand on when he runs for president in 2028.

And when the courts strike down the law as unconstitutional, Democrats like Polis will campaign on further turning our courts over to ivy school lawyers who’ve been successfully brainwashed by privileged elitists to interpret the Constitution based on the latest progressive trends in governing.
