The ripples from U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner’s entrance into the U.S. Senate race continue as State Senator Scott Renfroe (R-Eaton) announced that he would seek the Republican nomination for the Fourth Congressional District. From Renfroe’s press release:
“I’m humbled by the outpouring of support I’ve received in recent days. That’s why I’m honored to announce my intention to seek the Republican nomination for the 4th Congressional District. I believe my background in small business, education and my extensive hands-on experience as a citizen legislator will bring some much needed common sense to Congress. As a state legislator, I’ve enjoyed close ties to many of the issues that face Colorado today that have lacked a voice in Washington. After prayerful consideration, Pam and I believe now is the time to continue our public service in a new venue.”
Renfroe is the Republican Senate Caucus chair. He was elected to the Colorado state Senate in 2006. Part owner of a concrete contractor, Renfroe is a past president of the Weld County Builders Association and has served on the Weld County Building Trades Advisory Board and the Greeley Building Inspection Advisory Board. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in business administration. Renfroe lives in Eaton with his wife, Pamela, and their five children.
Renfroe is the second Republican to enter the Republican-leaning Fourth Congressional District race. After Gardner announced his Senate run, Republican U.S. Senate candidate and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck quickly threw his hat into the ring for the now-open Congressional seat. Several others are said to be considering runs including former state Rep. BJ Nikkel, Rep. Tim Dore, Rep. Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, and Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway.
Under current Colorado Revised Statutes, the power of eminent domain is granted to companies for utilities such as electric and gas. SB 14-093 was designed to give that same power to private for-profit companies for construction and use of pipelines. This Bill was brought forward by Mr. Renfroe. Do you really want someone who doesn't personal rights to go to DC for us?
Dan Smith Amazing!
I believe Ken should win easily, unfortunately some on the Far Right think Ken is too liberal. That says more about their foolishness than it does about Ken
Ken Buck will be a fine congressman.
What's going on in Weld County and CD-4. Rep. Cory Gardner has jumped into the race for the GOP nomination to challenge Sen. Mark Udall who only a year ago looked unbeatable.
The reason: Gardner is convinced Ken Buck can't beat Udall.
So Buck has announced that he is a candidate to replace Gardner in the U.S. House.
But State Sen. Scott Renfroe has announced that he will challenge Buck in CD-4. And others are considering jumping into the race.
Is Buck so unpopular in his home district that other ambitious Republicans think he can beat?
Buck has always impressed me as smart guy, a real pro and a pretty good local politician, if not a viable candidate for the U.S. senate. There seem to be some less favorable opinions of him in CD-4.
