U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman

It’s not just bureaucratic rules and regulations that President Obama is forcing down our throat in the last days of his presidency, now he’s looking to pardon Bowe Bergdahl for abandoning his post and endangering the lives of those he served with while in Afghanistan.

Proving once again that he is a coward, the Army sergeant is crying for Obama to pre-pardon him before his court-martial for desertion even begins in February after Obama leaves office.

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman is leading the opposition to Bergdahl’s request saying it would set a precedent for the Armed Forces and that his violation of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice must be judged.

Not only did Bergdahl abandon his post, but those actions prompted the Obama administration to make a trade with the Taliban forces that held him captive, releasing five Guantanamo Bay Islamic terrorist detainees in exchange for Bergdahl.

Here’s what Coffman had to say to soon-to-be-former President Obama:

“Bergdahl’s decision to abandon his post was not a ‘harmless’ act that simply led to his capture by the Taliban. It led to a major military search operation in one of the most dangerous regions of Afghanistan that I think endangered the lives of other U.S. service members and may have led to some becoming casualties.”

“A preemptive pardon for Bergdahl will, I am convinced, seriously undermine the military court-martial process and send the wrong message to the hundreds of thousands of men and women in uniform who have served honorably in combat.”

This is a battle we hope Coffman, a Marine Corps veteran, wins. The only act more cowardly than what Bergdahl did and the government’s reaction, would be to hold no one responsible.
