As Republicans come home this week for the President’s Day recess, they should to be acutely aware that every public event they hold is a target for national Democratic activists groups.
Democrats are making no secret of the fact they have plans to disrupt and commandeer for media stunts planned town hall events.
In fact, they are distributing a how-to manual.
Organizing for Action, a group founded by Obama and featured prominently on his new post-presidency website, is distributing a training manual to anti-Trump activists that advises them to bully GOP lawmakers into backing off support for repealing ObamaCare, curbing immigration from high-risk Islamic nations, and building a border wall.
The New York Times declares in a jaw-dropping story that these protests are unorganized grassroots efforts. They obviously missed the Craig’s list ads hiring activists.
The Times then lets it be known that national groups are gunning for the town hall meetings, and even those who don’t have meetings scheduled, including U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner.
In fact, some of the most formidable and well-established organizing groups on the left have found themselves scrambling to track all of the local groups sprouting up through social media channels like Facebook and Slack, or in local “huddles” that grew out of the women’s marches across the country the day after the inauguration.
Those would be those same totally organized marches held in order to recruit activists to do exactly what they are now doing.
Other new groups organizing on Facebook have arranged similar events, calling them “no-show” or “empty-chair” meetings, for Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Patrick J. Toomey of Pennsylvania, as well as for Republican lawmakers from California, New Jersey and New York.
U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman was the test case for these so-called impromptu rallies that look totally organized, and he’s not backing down from the activists.
He’ll be holding town meetings during the recess, and we expect totally impromptu national media coverage that somehow finds a way to criticize him for trying to speak with his constituents and do his job.
