We recently reported that the radical gun legislation of 2013 passed by the state legislature wasn’t working.
So inspired by this news was U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, that he actually introduced a bill in Congress to do the same thing. What he neglected to mention, is that the law doesn’t work.
Bennet’s Background Check Expansion Act would expand federal background checks to the sale or transfer of all firearms, with so-called “reasonable exceptions” between family members and temporary transfers at shooting ranges or for sport.
However, report from Johns Hopkins University and the University of California found that background checks didn’t significantly increase in Colorado after the law was passed. And, there was only a modest increase in background checks for private sales, while almost no change was reported in gun show sales.
Bennet’s bill is nothing but a flimsy excuse for Democrats to pretend they are cracking down on crime while accomplishing nothing.
We hope Republicans will call Bennet’s bluff.
