We’ve cracked the code to how Republicans can get flattering profile stories in the Washington Post —disagree with other Republicans.
We can’t count the number of times U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner has disagreed with liberals, only to be greeted with the sound of boos by the Democratic newspaper of record.
But when Gardner is at odds with Trump, this time it’s the Justice Department’s crack down on the marijuana industry, we get this headline:

The article touches on Gardner’s opposition to Roy Moore’s campaign in Alabama, a candidate strongly backed by Trump, and the marijuana issue as examples of Gardner’s willingness to stand as his own man.
They call it “positioning.” We call it, knowing right from wrong.
The Post says Gardner “is becoming known as someone who will do more than posture when he and the Trump administration disagree.”
This obviously comes as a surprise to the Washington Post, but they should know that Colorado Republicans don’t always walk the party line without question. They leave that to the Democratic Party.
