Range wars between neighbors and governments have been fought throughout Colorado’s history over water rights that are essential to irrigation, livestock, and human consumption.
As Mark Twain once famously proclaimed “Whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting!”
So many Coloradans are overly protective of their water rights, and get a little pissy when the Front Range comes bearing trinket gifts in exchange for a drop or two for diversion or conservation schemes.
It’s not surprising the sound of safety levers and weapons racking echoed across the state Thursday as Gov. Polis revealed this new concern of Democrats when it comes to future management, regulation and enforcement of water compacts.
