UPDATE: Reps. Pabon, McCann, and Lee were nowhere to be seen at Civic Center Park today.
The Legislature is not in session today out of respect for one of our nation's greatest civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and while not all legislators are invited to participate in Denver's ceremony, most Denver Democrats usually do.
But the Denver Post reports that newly elected Rep. Dan Pabon and Rep. Pete Lee, along with veteran Rep. Beth McCann decided to head out of town and hit the slopes for some fresh powder yesterday.
Minority Leader Sal Pace better hope that these three members of his caucus make it back in time for the ceremony and parade, as skipping out on the MLK Day festivities for a ski junket would be a big no-no and further strain ties between Denver Dems and Rep. Pace.
would equate spending a holiday on the slopes of Colorado (spending money in tourist areas no less) with some sort of political scandal involving Martin Luther King day. The only party that actually stands up for civil rights on a daily basis is the Democrats! PLEASE stop pandering to a wacky out of touch base and focus on your own actions!
I heard Rhonda Fields was the only State Rep there and not a single Dem from the Senate showed up. I guess the problem isn’t just Sal’s. Sounds like BS has his own caucus issues. Very surprised that Pabon and McCann would blow off MLK Day though.
The issue here isn’t whether a bunch of D’s got together to go skiing, the issue is whether Pabon and McCann bailed on the Denver MLK Day events. If they blew them off, that’s a big problem. And I agree that it would be Pace’s problem too. Would show he has zero control over his caucus.
Do these guys not realize this state is in the middle of a fiscal crisis? There are serious issues to be dealt with, and they’re out skiing? Unbelievable.
The legislatures not even in session today. Even dirty politics deserve a day off every once in a while. The real crime here is that they’d decide to go skiing on the busiest weekend in January!
Maybe if a few legislators saw what that road was like they would do something to fix it.
You would think this would be an important holiday for them. They better hope they didn’t take their per diem today!
