U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner’s bill to designate 9-8-8 as the national mental health suicide hotline is on its way to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law.
Gardner’s bill sailed through the Senate in May and finally passed the Democrat-controlled House this week, although with scant news coverage for the Republican author.
Colorado GOP Communications Director Joe Jackson pointed out the media has no problem endlessly covering U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s priorities that will never become law.
But when Gardner accomplishes something important, crickets.
Reporters who wrote endless stories on a law that will never become law (CORE Act) and haven’t written something on Gardner’s 9-8-8 Suicide bill about to become law should be ashamed of themselves.

“Calls to the mental health crisis line in Colorado have spiked 48% due in part to COVID-19. Roughly 60% of calls to the crisis line are related to the ongoing pandemic,” according to Gardner’s office.
This is extremely important and timely legislation, so we hope the mainstream media will eventually notice.
If dialing 9-8-8 connected voters to Gardner’s office to complain about the Supreme Court, the story would get national coverage.
