Senate Democrats counting on the Supreme Court commission appointed by President Biden to provide them political cover for stacking the courts and mandating term limits must be very disappointed by the results announced this week.

Ideas like splitting the court into panels, insisting on ideological balance or imposing term limits all drew objections, either on grounds of workability or because the risk of changes was too high compared with “uncertain practical benefits.”
Members dodged the issue of “packing” the court, a call by liberal activists to add seats.
Instead, the panel suggested those who want to see the court’s powers curbed should try conventional ideas, like asking Congress to assert itself more forcefully on big constitutional questions.

PeakNation™ will recall that while running for president, Colorado U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet tried to separate his candidacy from other progressives by claiming he would not support bench packing to politicize the highest court in the land.
And yet, Bennet and U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper voted down a measure earlier this year that would have put a stop to any court packing efforts by either party.
Colorado Democrats must be very disappointed, indeed.
Without political cover from Biden’s commission endorsing such a radical move, they will have to find another excuse to politicize the court.
