It was a toss-up as to who was more confused about Fentanyl smuggling at the border, freshman Democrat U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen or the host of “Colorado Point of View.”
Pettersen told KDVR host Ashley Michels:
“We absolutely need security at the border. We do have significant security at the border, that’s why cartels don’t actually use the border for trafficking.”
The freshman congresswoman said instead, “Almost 90% of the fentanyl that is coming into the U.S. is coming through our ports.”
What in the Hell is she talking about?
A recent story by National Public Radio — the progressives’ Mother Ship — reported “the vast majority of illicit fentanyl — close to 90% — is seized at official border crossings.”
When Pettersen says Fentanyl is coming through ports, not the border, she’s a dumbass and probably means ports of entry, which are in fact on the border.
Also, 90% is not the amount of Fentanyl coming through ports, it’s the recent estimate of where it is seized.
And this makes total sense that 90% of drugs are seized at the border ports, because that’s where the majority of border officials are stationed, as opposed to patrolling 6,000 miles of open border.
According to the Customs and Border Protection, on a typical day in 2022, they processed 547,318 land travelers with only 6,068 enforcement encounters nationwide between the ports of entry.
To assume all Fentanyl is coming in through legal ports of entry is ludicrous.
Cartels absolutely use the borders for smuggling, which brings us to the KDVR host who repeatedly misstated that Republicans are blaming migrants who seek asylum for bringing in all the Fentanyl.
As if the millions of migrants who surrendered at the border since Biden took office were all smuggling drugs, and border patrol just didn’t notice it?
No one in their right mind has claimed that.
The gaslighting in that TV studio was so obnoxious, it’s a wonder it didn’t spark a five-alarm fire.
To prove she didn’t know what she was talking about, Michels played two clips of Colorado Republican U.S. Reps. Ken Buck and Lauren Boebert blasting drug smuggling with no mention whatsoever of the word “migrant.”
Buck blamed it on smugglers and drug cartels.
With U.S. officials tied up along border points of entry dealing with the millions of migrants who are claiming asylum, there are 6,000 miles of open border for drug smugglers to utilize.
The U.S. doesn’t have a Fentanyl crisis because 90% of drugs that didn’t make it into the country were seized at points of entry, but because of the drugs flowing unabated between points of entry by drug smugglers that were not seized.
But wait, there’s more.
Peterson also blamed Republicans for the Fentanyl seized at ports because she says they voted against Biden’s infrastructure boondoggle, which included hundreds of millions for port authorities and shipping terminals, most of which are operated by foreign companies.
