School teachers should not be in the business of affirming any child’s sexuality no matter what that might be, or randomly assigning grammatically incorrect pronouns they insist on keeping secret from parents.
And yet here we are, again.
Jefferson County parents are rightly upset over a teacher union’s insistence that adults discuss sexual matters with children then break the law by using tricks to keep it all a secret.
Just a few years ago, that was indicator of child molestation.
Now instead of warning children not to do it, teachers are embracing it as if they are the sexual saviors of children who do not belong to them.
Shaun Boyd over at CBS News reports that student surveys about gender identity are not permitted in Jefferson County, but parents report teachers are doing it anyway and hiding the evidence.
An email from Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA) to teachers says, “if you do a questionnaire, please make it a paper and pencil activity – any digital records are more permanent and may be requested under federal law.”
JCEA President, Brooke Williams didn’t deny they were doing it. He/She/It just insisted that parents are politicizing (checks notes) the top most culturally political issue of our day.
“By allowing students an optional avenue to share their preferred pronouns while maintaining student privacy, we can better ensure that students feel safe, respected, and validated. We encourage and support educators to follow Jeffco’s district policy which states: School staff shall not disclose information that may reveal a student’s transgender status to others, including parents and other school staff, unless legally required to do so or unless the student has authorized such disclosure. Transgender and gender nonconforming students have the right to discuss and express their gender identity and expression openly and to decide when, with whom, and how much to share private information.”
In other words, teachers who just met your child know best and will keep doing it and hiding it, so shut up.
Gay, straight, bi, trans, whatever. Just stop doing it. It is not an educator’s job to reinforce a child’s desire to be a ballerina today, and a cowboy tomorrow.
How about respecting the child as a human being, and not a politically progressive label?
It’s the job of teachers to best educate a child to read and write correct English, study other languages, math, sciences, history, art and music if they’re lucky.
Gender dysphoria is between the child, their parents and a medical profession, not a creepy and politicized union lackey.
