Republican 3rd District Congressional challenger Jeff Hurd is pulling in more endorsements in his run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert for the party’s nomination to represent the Western Slope.
Delta County Commissioner Don Suppes says Boebert’s narrow win over an Aspen Democrat by less than 500 votes in the last election prompted him to back the Grand Junction attorney over two-term Boebert.
Suppes told the Montrose Daily Press that Hurd has the background and education to strongly represent the conservative Western Slope, which needs the full attention of its elected representative in the U.S. House.
“He’s a Grand Junction boy who graduated from Grand Junction High School and I feel like he’s our best hope to retain the seat.”
As for Boebert:
“I felt like she had made steps in the right direction in the last year in trying to change her brand a little bit. She was starting to grow into the position. The people in the 3rd Congressional District need to know that they are her primary focus. When you have extracurricular activities that go on and that takes the focus off the district then that’s a problem,” Suppes said.
Also endorsing Hurd are fellow Delta County Commissioner Cody Davis and Mesa County Commissioner Bobbie Daniel.
All the endorsements came after a video released by the Buell Theatre in Denver showed Boebert in the audience vaping, being loud, and groping with her date, who was a Democrat.
Boebert’s divorce from her husband of 17 years was finalized on Tuesday. They have four sons and one grandchild.
