Insurance is one of the most profitable industries worldwide pulling in trillions of dollars annually in the U.S., yet Democrats have found a way to make it more profitable in Colorado.
Under a bill passed Saturday night when the Constitution was apparently sleeping, the state House decided gun owners must also buy insurance policies in case their weapon discharges accidently.
Republicans assert the legislation is a not-so-sly, backdoor method of gun registration.
Democrats would have us believe this:
The bill’s supporters argued that it’s no different from requiring liability insurance for other items that have the potential to cause harm, such as swimming pools and trampolines. They contended that insurance coverage would assist in offsetting the substantial medical expenses incurred by victims of accidental or unintentional firearm discharges.
Democrats are simply looking out for us, the gun owners, to make sure that we have insurance to offset our medical expenses.
But don’t we already have insurance for our medical needs, and homeowners’ liability insurance to cover all of that?
Shut up, Democrats explained.
Who knew trampolines and swimming pools were just as dangerous as a weapon locked in a safe? We’d like to see that data.
The measure was doomed to fail with 14 Democrats siding with Republicans to put it down, until two Democrats changed their minds at the last minute to support mandated Obamacare gun insurance.
Colorado Politics reports the vote switchers were Tisha Mauro of Pueblo and Alex Valdez of Denver.
Please make a note of it.
The next stop for HB1270 is the state Senate. Its prime sponsors are all Democrats; state Sen. Chris Hansen and Rep. Steven Woodrow of Denver, and Rep. Iman Jodeh of Aurora.
