Missing from news reports that a repeat drunk driver pled guilty last week to vehicular homicide charges in the deaths of a Broomfield mother and her son is the suspect’s immigration history, which includes four deportations.
We know it’s true because some media reported those details in the weeks after the horrific crash caused by El Salvador national Jose Menjivar, who was driving over 80mph in a 40 mph zone that killed Riordan and Melissa Powell.
From the Denver Post back in January:
Court records show Menjivar had four previous alcohol-related driving offenses stemming from incidents going back to 2007 in Boulder County and had been sentenced in the most recent case just four days before the Broomfield crash.
He should have been in jail when the crash happened, but a judge let him out until a bed could be made available in lock-up.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson told the Post he had been deported four times since 2009, and an immigration detainer was issued to Broomfield County on Dec. 18.
Obviously, Manjivar is still here, having pled guilty to the charges on Sept. 19.
His sentencing is set for Nov. 8, after the contentious presidential election in which border and immigration enforcement is a key issue i the race.
Only two media outlets reported this week that Menjivar had pled guilty, 9News and Denver7 News.
Looks like Denver Channel 7 accidentally left out the part where the man is a 4 times previously deported illegal immigrant from El Salvador. Covering up the news?#copolitics

Neither mentioned the suspect was in this country illegally, or that he had been deported four times.

This is the kind of news coverup we’ve come to expect from many mainstream media outlets that believe their job is to act as political advocates to defend the Democrat Party, rather than inform the public of critical information needed to form opinions of important current issues and events.
In this case, it’s what happens when a country fails to property enforce legal immigration or punish repeat offenders.
