Yadira Caraveo’s vote to decriminalize fentanyl possession in Colorado has come back to haunt her in a new ad that features the very raw consequences of her action on the state’s most vulnerable residents.

The Democrat congresswoman was still a state lawmaker when she voted to weaken the state’s drug law.

It was a controversial move then and the results of that law have only increased the use of the deadly drug without legal repercussions.

The ad launched this week by the National Republican Congressional Committee features a man named Thomas who says he almost died from drug use.

Thomas says that when Caraveo put her name on the legislation defelonizing fentanyl, she signed the death warrants of hundreds of people.

“Whatever you’re doing right now, look who’s next to you. And realize that with someone like her in office, they might not be next to you very much longer. Because she is such a big part of why all this has happened.”

It’s a chilling ad that could very well affect this swing district race against Republican challenger Gabe Evans.
