All but one of Colorado’s congressional Democrats voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act that clarifies sex will be recognized solely on a person’s genetics at birth and reproductive biology.

Voting no were U.S. Reps. Diana DeGette, Jason Crow, and Joe Neguse. Brittany Pettersen missed the vote because she is remaining in Colorado for the duration of her pregnancy and birth of her child.

With maternity leave, she could miss votes for at least the next four months.

That’s the first 100 days of the Trump presidency during which most of his America First agenda is expected to go before Congress for a vote, and the most critical time of her two-year term that just began 10 days ago. Republicans have a super slim majority, so her absence will give them a critical edge to pass legislation.

Thanks, Brittany, and good health to you and your baby! Take all the time you’ll need!

Colorado’s Republican delegation that now includes Jeff Crank, Gabe Evans, and Jeff Hurd as well as Lauren Boebert, all voted in favor of the bill.

From the New York Post:

A key provision of the bill underscores that recipients of federal funds are allowed to have males train with women provided that “no female is deprived of a roster spot on a team” or scholarship opportunities.

Roughly 3% of high school students in the US classify themselves as transgender, per data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration. President-elect Trump has indicated he would sign such a measure into law.
