The results from the first round of the Denver Mayor's race are in. No candidate surpassed the 50% threshold to avoid a runoff. Chris Romer sewed his place up in the June runoff early in the night, taking nearly 30% of the vote.
It was a close race for the second spot on the June ballot, with Michael Hancock taking an early, but small, lead over James Mejia and increasing it steadily as more results trickled in. Below are the vote tallies for the top three candidates.
The big question now is who gets Mejia supporters?
Chris Romer 28,237 (29.55%)
Michael Hancock 25,360 (26.54%)
James Mejia 24,175 (25.30%)
They’re both flaming liberals!
is a crook, Hancock might be a little dim, but Romer is a shady back room politician with no moral compass OR an honest bone in his body. I would prefer a clueless liberal to a ruthless liberal ANY DAY!
People will start paying a lot more attention to Romer now that he’s one of two people. His absence at many of the forums, his background in banking, and his deceptive ads will start reflecting poorly on him. He’ll have a hard time beating Hancock.
will hand this election to Hancock! Not sure if that is really a good thing…
