Liberal leaders in the Democratic Party have already settled on a candidate for State Treasurer, so it’s only a matter of time before any candidate who’s not the chosen one leaves the race.

Yesterday, one-term Congresswoman Betsy Markey announced her bid for Treasurer with the full backing of the Democratic establishment, including the state party, which used its resources to help spread word of her campaign.

But Markey isn’t the only Democrat to announce a run for Treasurer.

Broomfield Mayor Pat Quinn also announced a run.

That’s nice for Quinn and all, but we predict it’s only a matter of time before the powers-that-be in the Democratic Party make Quinn the candidate-that-used-to-be.

Democrats in Colorado don’t do primaries. The rank and file seem content to let the smoke filled backrooms hand pick their candidates.

Who wants to take bets on how long it takes before we receive a press release from Quinn announcing he’s leaving the race and endorsing Markey?
