Want to see a Democrat do their best impression of an ostrich?  Just watch what they do after reading this story from The Las Vegas Review-Journal on a new study done by Mark Gius, an economist at Quinnipac University.

In light of the mass hysteria that Colorado gun-control advocates will look to create as they try to ban concealed carry on campus this upcoming fall, it would be helpful for them to ignore Gius’ study which shows states with such a ban actually have a higher increase of gun related murders.  As Gius’ states:

“Using data for the period 1980 to 2009 and controlling for state and year fixed effects, the results of the present study suggest that states with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murder rates than other states.”

If that wasn’t enough to ruffle gun-controllers feathers, in the same study, Gius shows there is no evidence that banning assault weapons had any significant effect on a state’s murder rate.  Then again, Governor Hickenlooper already knew swimming pools are much more dangerous to kids.  But every politician knows it’s political suicide to go after the swimming pool lobby – and kids’ summer fun.

If Democrats were actually concerned about Coloradans’ safety like they claim to be, they might heed the advice of the editorial board at The Review-Journal:

“Knowing that any person at any time could be carrying, to defend themselves or others, can act as a deterrent to those with bad intentions. Rolling back overly restrictive gun laws or, better yet, introducing legislation that supports concealed-carry rights, would do far more to protect citizens than creating more gun-free zones or expanding restrictions on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.”

But, why make people safer when you can just cost them jobs?
