Apparently, the public relations mess New Belgium and friends found themselves in last month with their support of eco-terrorism group Wild Earth Guardians did not curb New Belgium’s appetite for more radical environmental activism.
New Belgium, Aspen Brewery, and Odell Brewing Company recently also have signed on to the Ceres Brewery Climate Declaration, which reads in part:
“What made America great was taking a stand. Doing the things that are hard. And seizing opportunities. The very foundation of our country is fighting for our freedoms and ensuring the health and prosperity of our state, our community and our families. Today those things are threatened by a changing climate that most scientists agree is caused by air pollution….”
Silly us. We thought that America was being threatened by an overzealous regulatory regime hell-bent on intruding into every crevice of our lives – maybe even the same people who this climate change declaration appeals to.
Ceres is the same group who blew the whistle on companies not adequately reporting climate change financial risks as seen in this Pensions & Investments piece:
“The Securities and Exchange Commission ‘is not adequately enforcing’ compliance of its requirements for corporations to disclose climate change financial risks, according to a new report by Ceres.”
Once you’re done laughing about the absurdity of the SEC enforcing such a made-up rule, we’ve provided a helpful guide on which brewers want to cripple Colorado’s energy economy.
In case you’d like to know which beer to not buy this Fourth of July, here is a complete list of brewers who have signed this climate change pledge:
- The Alchemist
- Agrarian
- Aeronaut
- Ale Asylum
- Allagash
- Anderson Valley
- Aslan Brewing
- Brewery Vivant
- Deschutes Brewery
- Fremont Brewing
- Guinness (sorry, Irish folks) and its parent company Diageo
- Hopworks Urban Brewery
- Kona Brewing Company
- Ninkasi Brewing Company
- Red Hook Brewers
- Rockford Brewing Company
- Sierra Nevada
- Smutty Nose Brewing
- Snake River Brewing
- Widmer Brothers
Oh no. The brewers agree with all the world's national academies of science, the Pope, and NASA. Radicals.
You guys are morons.
You mention Diageo owning Guinness, but not AB-Inbev owning Kona, Red Hook and Widmer.
