U.S. Rep. Jared Polis has ignored the wishes of his Democratic constituency who are insisting that he feel the Bern, love the Bern, and support the Bern.
And now we know why.
Polis is part of an exclusive group of bundlers who are raising big bucks for Hillary Clinton, and Politico reports that membership has its rewards:
The Clinton foot soldiers are among the members of Congress who may be in line for a nice return on their hard work if she wins in November — a job in the new administration, perhaps, increased political clout or help from the commander in chief reaching the next rung on the political ladder.
Indeed, being an early and aggressive supporter of Clinton has the potential to propel careers forward. Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) has discussed running for governor or Senate, while Colorado Rep. Jared Polis wants to join the ranks of Democratic leadership, having made a previous bid to chair the party’s House campaign arm. Both are top bundlers for Clinton — a distinction earned after an individual raises $100,000 or more in primary election contributions for the campaign — and her support as president would certainly aid their ambitions.
Numerous Boulder Democrats have written letters to the editor demanding that Polis support their choice for the White House, and one constituent was so desperate to reach their congressman, they attached a note to his takeout order from Native Foods Cafe that stated: “Dear Congressman Polis, the constituency has spoken. Use your power wisely. Feel the Bern.”
Are you feeling the burn, Boulder? Because Polis has made it clear throughout his brief legislative career that he is only looking out for the concerns of Constituent Number One, and that would be himself.
