bennet capitolJust when we thought we had nailed U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s position on the closing of Gitmo — he’s against it, but he’s also against moving detainees to Colorado because he’s up for reelection — he changes his mind again.

Bennet voted in favor of the $602 billion Defense authorization bill Tuesday that blocks President Obama from closing Gitmo, a direct affront to Obama who is threatening to veto it.

So this week, he’s for it!

In particular, the statement from the executive branch stressed that the Senate’s intention to “extend” operations at Guantanamo Bay, the notorious US detention camp in Cuba, was unacceptable. Obama hopes to close the facility by the end of his term in November in order to fulfill one of his major campaign promises from back in 2008.

Bennet’s Democratic base won’t like that, because they want Gitmo closed and the detainees released back into the war on terror wild.

But the liberal ladies will love that Bennet voted for the bill, because it forwards a critical position in the war to equalize the sexes by requiring teenage girls to put down their pom poms, and take up bombs by registering for the draft.

Girls who are 16 now, would be the first to register to go to war when they turn 18 in 2018.

Politically speaking, Bennet truly couldn’t win for losing in voting for this bill, which is probably why he didn’t issue a press release, and no one in the Colorado media is writing about it. Until now.
